Unit 1

2. What is reverse osmosis ? How will you purify the sea water by reverse osmosis ? Mention its advantages and disadvantages.
3. What is secondary reference electrode ? Explain the construction and working of Calomel electrodes in detail.
4. Explain how demineralization of water is done in water technology?
5. Derive Nernst Equation. Explain the various terms involved and mention its application.
6. Describe the principle and estimation of total hardness by EDTA method.

2.What are synthetic rubbers ? Discuss the synthesis and uses of SBE & Butyl rubber.
3.How are following polymers prepared ? Give the properties and uses.

(5) Nylon 6:6
(6) PET

4. What is electroless plating ? Explain in detail about electroless nickel plating.
5.Explain in detail about FRP with neat diagram.

Unit III

2.Explain the various types of absorption isotherms.
3. Describe the Otto – Hoffmann method of coke manufacture and recovery of various by products.
4. How the flue gas analysis is carried out ? Explain with neat diagram.
5. Describe the manufacture of gasoline by Fischer – Tropsch method.
6. How is water gas manufactured. Give the chemical reactions taking place in different zones.

1. Explain in detail about the working of UV – visible spectrometer with a neat diagram.
2. What are abrasives ? Explain the classifications of abrasives with suitable examples.
3. Elaborate the working of IR spectroscopy with neat diagram and mentions its application.
4. What are refractories? Explain the classification of refractories on the basis of chemical composition with suitable examples.
5. What are the characteristics of a good refractory ? Write a note on Carborundum and Norbide.
