Are you in a dilemma or confused about PG/MBA or Job ?

Everybody wants a good career and at the end of their degree they look for a placement / job offer with a good salary – i.e. an ideal stepping stone. We look forward to a job once we have completed our UG degree/ or any formal education. When we don’t achieve this we look for higher study. Here we should be little bit cautious. All higher education is not job guarantor. It should not end up in spending huge money, 2 yrs. of time (most valuable) and returning no big positive outcomes.

If you are interested in making a career in education/research/Technical fields, then you should go for a Technical PG. If you are interested in management role like Operations, Business, HR, Marketing, Finance, Supply chain etc. then go for MBA. But, here don’t confuse with good future v/s interest. I am entirely talking on interest based approach.

If job/placement is your priority, institute Brand/reputation matters a lot. In PG/MBA it’s no more a degree only factor, but also the Institutes brand that will aid your success. If you do either PG/MBA from not so good colleges, it would not be of great/best beneficiary to your career.
One cannot compare career path with PG/MBA in top colleges with any low end PG/MBA college.

Now to answer the question – PG/MBA or Job, I would like to give following scenarios.
1.You want to do PhD in future - then its best you should go for PG/MBA immediately after UG
2.You have done UG from not so known college and don’t have any job offer in hand, you can go for PG/MBA
3.You have completed UG  and  have a job offer in hand
  • If job is not so good ( in terms of company, salary, profile) and you have seat in a good/Prominent college, go for PG/MBA
  • If job is not so good ( in terms of company, salary, profile)but  your family financial condition is in risk/doesn’t allow for higher study, its best to go for the job
  • If job is good (in terms of company, salary, profile) and college is not good, take up the job.
  • If job is good and college is also good, then you need to discuss with your seniors, Parents and friends and analyze the situation and take decision. Research on how the PG/MBA job market would be 2 years forward. Analyze whether it will benefit you.

Thought this post would be useful for many to sit and analyse about perspectives. This is just my point of view and I don’t want to imply that this holds good for every individual. Scenarios differ for different people and everybody please take good time, analyze and choose the best option that is in front of you.
