Two large asteroid come close to Earth on Thursday

The newly opened small asteroid 2012 XE54 and long known asteroid Toutatis in the next day(Thursday - 13/12/2012) fly around the planet, and many observatories around the world is watching these two objects. In this case, the scientists say that neither one nor the other are not the subject of threats, but they give scientists an opportunity to learn more about the rare cosmic debris. Asteroid 2012 XE54 first came to the attention of researchers over the weekend.

According to the calculated trajectory, it will fly safely between the Earth and the Moon at a distance of 226,000 km from the first 28-meter asteroid to pass the point of closest approach to the planet today at 14:10 MSK. In addition, according to exemplary calculations from Asian regions will be able to see the object, even in the night sky, as the object enters the Earth's shadow and will be visible in the sky. Second object 4179 Toutatis and looks like a potato and it will follow at a distance of 6.9 million km from Earth (18 distance to the Moon), but in size and it is much more than the 2012 XE54. Its length is 4.46 km, width - 2.4 km.

According to the modern classification of the object is potentially dangerous, as it every few years comes close to Earth, and its orbit is not stable. If 4179 Toutatis would hit the planet, for humans consequences of such contact would be disastrous. About 60 million years ago, comparable in size to the object crashed into the Earth, killing the dinosaurs and changing global climate. According to preliminary calculations, the minimum distance of Asteroid 4179 Toutatis will come to Earth tomorrow at midnight. Over the span of the object in real time will be watching several ground-based telescopes.
